Freeskates
Defining Freeskates
These are often referred to as freestyle skates or urban inline skates and are adaptable inline skates commonly utilized in city settings. In contrast to regular fitness skates, they are constructed with increased support and robustness. Consequently, they are designed with a high cuff boot and hard shell combined with a short frame, which affords skaters excellent ankle support and maximum agility for sharp turns.
Freeskates come with lightweight yet durable aluminium frames, available in setups with either three or four wheels. Depending on your skating environment and intentions, you can opt for freeskates with either small or large wheels.
Before purchasing a pair of freestyle skates, be sure to consult the sizing guides, as each brand constructs their boots differently.
Selecting the Appropriate Freeskates
Your choice of skates should reflect the setting in which you plan to skate and your personal style of skating. Freeskating styles generally fall into two categories: slalom skating and urban skating.
Slalom skating is conducted on smooth surfaces, focusing on manoeuvring through cones and performing quick turns and jumps. Wheels with diameters ranging from 80mm to 84mm are common for slalom freeskates because they offer fast acceleration and superb mobility.
Urban skating is ideal for those aiming to glide through the city at high speeds. For this style, larger wheels between 90mm - 125mm are preferable as they may not be as manoeuvrable but ensure a smooth roll over uneven surfaces like cobblestones and small grass areas.
