Understanding BMX Hub Guards

Hub guards are essential for preventing damage to BMX hubs and spokes. These cone-shaped caps are positioned on the exterior of the front or back hub at the wheel's centre. As riders perform grinds on rails and ledges, the hub guards serve as a protective barrier for the wheel. Additionally, they help decrease friction, allowing for smoother and longer grinds.

When selecting a hub guard, it’s crucial to determine the type you need. Front hub guards are designed for a 10 mm axle, while rear hub guards fit a 14 mm axle. There's also a distinction between drive side hub guards and non-drive side hub guards. Drive side guards feature a cut-out section that facilitates chain movement around the driver without snagging.

BMX hub guards are produced in various materials, with nylon and aluminium being the two most prevalent. Nylon hub guards offer a smoother grind compared to their aluminium counterparts.
