Pro Scooter Headsets
Understanding Scooter Headsets
A pro scooter headset is a crucial component of any scooter setup. Installed within the headtube of the scooter deck, it ensures the fork can rotate smoothly. Riders of trick scooters, who frequently perform 360 barspins, know the vital role the headset plays in executing these moves successfully.
Typically, headsets for pro scooters have a diameter of 1 ⅛ inches. They are available in two types: threaded and threadless, with the latter being more prevalent on pro scooters. Moreover, scooter headsets are categorized as either integrated or non-integrated. It is critical to distinguish between these options to guarantee compatibility with your fork.
Integrated and Non-Integrated Headsets
The most common headset types are integrated and non-integrated. The type you require depends on the headtube of your scooter deck.
Integrated headsets feature pre-installed top and bottom cups in the headtube, allowing easy placement of bearings onto the deck's headtube. Many models are now equipped with integrated scooter headsets, so verify that you have an integrated deck.
On the other hand, non-integrated headsets have top and bottom cups that need to be pressed into the deck. This method requires more installation effort and tools. Additionally, non-integrated headsets can be threaded, compatible solely with threaded forks.
Scooter Headset Bearings and Spacers
Within the headset cups are the bearings. You will need two specific bearings in the headset, which perform the crucial function of enabling smooth bar rotations. Generally, the bearings are a decisive factor when selecting a headset.
A typical headset package may include a top cap, a C-Ring, and sometimes headset spacers. If not included, consider purchasing a headset spacer. They might be necessary to fill the gap between your clamp and headset, providing a secure fit.
