BMX Brake Parts, BMX Brake Pads & BMX Brake Cables
Essential Information About BMX Brakes
An increasing number of freestyle riders are using brakes for enhanced control during rides. Brakes contribute to your safety and also facilitate the learning of new tricks. Maintaining and occasionally replacing your BMX brake parts is crucial to keep them in optimal condition.
BMX Brake Pads
BMX brake pads, also known as brake shoes or brake blocks, play a critical role in stopping your wheels. They are an essential component of the braking system, generating friction to slow down or bring your wheels to a halt.
Brake pads inevitably wear out and will need replacement over time. Most are designed for compatibility with all types of rim brakes and feature basic one-piece constructions.
While many brake pads are of the threaded variety, it is important to verify whether you require threaded or non-threaded pads when making a purchase.
BMX Brake Cables
Similar to pads, BMX brake cables experience wear and will need periodic replacement. Since most BMX bikes utilise a single rear U-brake, they typically feature a standard 1.5mm inner wire and full-length outer casing. BMX brake cables can come in two styles: linear or helical. Linear cables, preferred by many BMX enthusiasts, consist of straight wire segments, whereas helical cables are tightly coiled wire spirals.
If your setup includes a Gyro brake system, you will need both the upper and lower cables. Gyro cables are easy to install and can often be adjusted to accommodate various lengths.
