Marathon Inline Skates / Endurance Skates
What Are Marathon Inline Skates?
Also referred to as endurance skates, marathon skates are a type of inline skates crafted for long-distance skating adventures. Unlike speed skates, these have higher cuffs that offer improved ankle support over extensive journeys. They are available in both traditional four-wheel and three-wheel setups. Marathon skates can be fitted with 100mm, 110mm, and 125mm wheels, and feature long frames that provide stability at high speeds.
Which Skates Are Suitable for Long-Distance?
When selecting long-distance inline skates, consider wheels, boots, and frames.
For medium to extended travels, 100mm or 110mm wheels are favoured by fitness enthusiasts seeking to conserve energy while maintaining speed. Although 125mm wheels might be heavier, they are ideal for skaters covering very long distances. Whether to choose a soft or hard boot shell comes down to personal preference. Soft boots offer more comfort and ventilation, while hard boots are typically more stable and offer better control. Long-distance skaters often opt for long frames for greater stability and weight distribution.
Four-Wheel Versus Three-Wheel Marathon Skates
Endurance skates can be configured with four or three wheels, the choice of which depends on your desired skate feel. Four-wheel skates provide increased stability and superior weight distribution but are less fast than three-wheel setups and cannot accommodate 125mm wheels. In contrast, three-wheel setups are generally lighter but less stable than their four-wheel counterparts.
