Truck Parts for Skateboards
The Function of Skateboard Bushings
Located within your truck, skateboard bushings enable the smooth turning of your board. These components are critical for both the stability and quality of your skateboarding experience. Each truck is equipped with two bushings: a street-facing top bushing and a board-facing bottom bushing. Similar to your wheels, skate bushings are constructed from polyurethane.
While your skateboard trucks come equipped with bushings, it's important to note that they will eventually wear out. Many skateboarders choose to refresh their setup with new ones. Since skateboard bushings are universal, you won’t have to worry about them fitting your existing setup.
Which Skateboard Bushings Should I Choose?
There are two types of skateboard truck bushings: cone bushings and barrel bushings. Cone bushings provide increased steerability and agility, whereas barrel bushings offer stability at higher speeds.
Just like wheels, bushings are measured using a durometer scale. A higher number indicates a harder bushing. Consider your weight and preferred riding style when selecting bushings. Harder bushings will result in less responsiveness during turns, while softer bushings will be easier to turn and more responsive.
If it's more than just your bushings that need replacing, it may be time to upgrade your Skateboard Trucks entirely.
