3 Tips to Increase Your Speed on Skates
Boost your speed with these 3 simple tips and techniques from speed skate world champion Felix Rijhen.
Whether you're aiming to beat your personal best or are new to inline speed skating, we've teamed up with Felix Rijhen, world champion in inline speed skating, to bring you 3 tips for getting a great start in the exhilarating and fast-paced world of speed skates.
Balance Your Skills with the Right Gear
Choosing the right skate is crucial. Observing the pros and intermediate speed skaters, you'll notice they often use low cuff boots. However, Felix advises that low cuff boots aren't always the best choice for beginners.
“Starting with a high cuff boot and smaller wheels is a good idea. As you improve, you can upgrade your gear—get a longer frame, larger wheels, and eventually, maybe a low cuff boot,” he explains.
Master the Technique
Now that you have your state-of-the-art speed skates, there's one crucial thing you need before leading the pack.
“Don’t forget to work on your technique. To skate fast and have fun, you need the proper technique. Focus on getting your skating position right and improving your balance on one foot. This will significantly enhance your skating experience,” says Felix.
