Playground Skatepark in Barrydale, South Africa
The Playground Skatepark was created to offer a safe recreational space for children in Barrydale, a town located 250 km northeast of Cape Town, South Africa.
With a focus on personal growth and empowerment through skateboarding, Playground Skatepark aims to guide young minds away from street crime and drug abuse.
By providing skateboards and lessons, Playground Skatepark supports 45-50 children. Before SkatePro’s contribution, local organizer Graham Abbott highlighted a challenge: “We are around 50 skaters. We used to have 12 skateboards, but currently, we have only 8.”
SkatePro’s Partnership with Playground Skatepark
Our partnership with Playground Skatepark started in December 2023. Through discussions with Graham Abbott, we quickly realized that the project perfectly matched our vision of promoting personal and community growth through action sports.
We decided that the most effective way to support the project would be to ship skateboarding equipment directly to Barrydale. Although SkatePro had never shipped gear to South Africa before (we do not have any commercial interest in South Africa), our logistics department rose to the challenge.
In February 2024, we successfully sent a large package filled with skateboarding hard goods, including:
- The Heart Supply complete skateboards
- Spare parts & tools
- T-shirts & other apparel
The total value of the package was €2345.
The skaters in Barrydale were ecstatic about the new skateboards, and we were equally excited to support Playground Skatepark in its ongoing efforts to bring positive experiences to these wonderful kids.
