Purchasing Hockey Gloves
This guide is here to assist you in selecting the appropriate hockey gloves.
Hockey gloves serve to protect your hands and wrists, offering both mobility and comfort.
Made from synthetic materials or leather (with the latter being pricier), they are occasionally strengthened with Kevlar or nylon on sections that endure wear.
Hockey Glove Sizing
To determine your glove size, ensure you're wearing elbow protection and measure the span from the bottom edge of the elbow pad to your fingertip.
Sizes are listed in inches and may differ among brands. The sizes in this table offer guidance based on your measurement and height:
Model | Measurement | Height (approx.) | Size |
Child | 20 cm | 8" | |
Child | 23 cm | < 120 cm | 9" |
Child | 25 cm | 110 - 120 cm | 10" |
Junior | 28 cm | 120 - 130 cm | 11" |
Junior | 30 cm | 130 - 140 cm | 12" |
Junior | 33 cm | 140 - 160 cm | * 13" |
Senior | 36 cm | 160 - 180 cm | * 14" |
Senior | 38 cm | > 180 cm | * 15" |
* Sizes for 13", 14", and 15" share the same finger length.
Note: It is acceptable for gloves to be slightly oversized as this ensures comprehensive protection for your hands and wrists.
Assessing Hockey Glove Quality
At a bare minimum, hockey gloves should have multiple segments at each finger and a wrist-protection sleeve.
High-quality gloves are ergonomically designed to match the natural grip used when playing hockey.
For durability, look for gloves that are fortified on contact areas, such as the palm and thumb.
