Purchasing Skateboard Bolts and Riser Pads
Are riser pads necessary for a skateboard?
Riser pads serve to create more space between your deck and wheels, helping to avert wheel bites. However, for typical skateboard wheels with diameters up to 54 mm, riser pads are usually unnecessary.
Selecting the appropriate length for skateboard bolts
When you're setting up your skateboard, the length of the skateboard hardware bolts should correspond to the riser pads' thickness. Generally, with riser pads, it's advisable to choose skateboard bolts that are at least 1" in length. If neither riser nor shock pads are used, the bolts should range from 7/8“ to 1“ long.
Risers | Bolt length |
No riser | 7/8“ – 1“ bolts |
1/8“ riser pads | 1“ – 1 1/8“ bolts |
1/4“ riser pads | 1 1/4″ bolts |
1/2“ riser pads | 1 1/2″ bolts |
