How to Remove Pre-Wax from Your New Cross Country Skate Skis
Before you embark on the sunny cross country trails with your new pair of cross country skis, it's essential to ensure that you have removed the pre-wax from the base.
The good news is that removing the pre-wax yourself is quite simple. Just follow these four steps:
- Remove all stickers that the manufacturer has placed on the skis.
- Remove the wax from the groove in the middle of the base. It's advisable to use a pencil groove scraper for this.
- Next, remove the glider wax. Use a plexiglass wax scraper, moving it from the tip of the ski to the tail. Ensure you're not applying too much pressure on the ski while scraping the wax off. Repeat this 3-6 times.
- The final step is to brush off the base of the ski. Again, it's crucial to do this in the travel direction of the ski. For optimal glide, ensure the surface is completely clean so the structure of the base is visible. Repeat this at least 3 times. You can use either a nylon brush or a combi brush.
