Helmets for Inline & Roller Skating
Is a Helmet Necessary for Skating?
The most crucial protective gear for skating is a skate helmet. It safeguards your head against potential injuries from unexpected falls and is strongly advised if you aim to skate at high speeds. Both novice and expert skaters are encouraged to always wear a helmet.
Skating helmets are designed to shield the front, rear, and sides of your head. They feature an ABS plastic outer shell and a protective inner layer of EPS foam. This foam aids in absorbing shocks, and coupled with the robust ABS shell, it helps to prevent head injuries such as fractures or concussions.
It's important to note that skate helmets differ from bike helmets: those for skating are made to endure multiple minor impacts, whereas bike helmets are designed for a single severe impact. However, helmets are now available with certification for both skating and biking: ensure to review the product specifications to verify if a helmet is certified to meet your requirements.
Selecting the Proper Skate Helmet
To ensure optimal protection, helmets must fit well and rest suitably on your head. They should be snug and not move around: a poorly fitting skate helmet might dislodge during a fall. Before purchasing a helmet, use a measuring tape to determine your head's circumference and refer to the sizing guide provided for each product.
