Aggressive Skate Wheels
Understanding Aggressive Skate Wheels
The diameter of aggressive inline wheels is smaller compared to other types of inline skate wheels. They usually measure between 54mm and 64mm, which helps skaters maintain a lower centre of gravity, enhances control, supports faster acceleration, and facilitates grinds. These wheels are typically hard and have a flat profile, resembling a slightly rounded rectangle. This design caters to aggressive skaters by providing a stable and wide landing base for jumps and tricks.
Selecting the Right Aggressive Inline Wheels
Your choice of aggressive wheels should align with your skating style. Harder wheels offer increased speed but may reduce your pace on uneven city paths. They are ideal for aggressive park skaters on smooth surfaces. On the other hand, softer wheels work well on rough terrains, suited for skaters executing tricks in busy urban settings.
Diverse Aggressive Wheel Profiles: Flat, Round & Bullet
As noted, flat-profile wheels are popular among aggressive skaters. They not only bolster stability but also prevent stalls on bars during grinds.
Aggressive wheels also come in round and bullet (pointy) profiles. Round wheels are favoured for urban skating due to their combined stability and maneuverability. Bullet profile wheels offer the quickest rolling speeds and turning capabilities in exchange for stability, making them suitable for slalom and freestyle skating in urban areas.
Aggressive Grind Wheels for Rails, Boxes and More
Special grind wheels are specifically crafted for grinding in aggressive skating. Unlike regular wheels, these do not facilitate rolling, and therefore, are much harder and smaller than typical aggressive wheels. While the hardness of standard inline skate wheels ranges between 80 and 90 on the durometer scale, grind wheels exceed 100A in hardness.
Hard grind wheels are chosen for their ability to effortlessly slide across rails, boxes, and similar structures without suddenly gripping the surface. Softer wheels generate friction, risking skater imbalance and falls. If you use an anti-rocker frame, you may also switch the grind wheels, along with the front and back wheels, to standard aggressive skate wheels when upgrades are needed.
