Skateboard Griptape: Ensuring Grip and Stylishness
The self-adhesive surface covering you install on your skateboard is known as griptape. Resembling sandpaper, it has a granulated texture to secure a solid stance and traction on your board. Typically composed of silicon carbide, skateboard griptapes usually come in the standard dimension of 9 x 33 inches (23 cm x 84 cm). Available options include individual sheets or griptape rolls.
While the most common choice is black griptape, brightly coloured options have gained popularity among skateboard enthusiasts. Some brands also offer transparent griptapes.
Steps to Remove Skateboard Griptape
Griptape will naturally wear down with time, particularly with frequent use. The sand-like texture smoothens from footwear and dirt, complicating trick performance.
Utilize a hairdryer to heat the griptape, softening the adhesive to peel it off with ease using a box knife. Any remaining adhesive can be gently scraped away after treating it with nail polish remover or an alcohol-based cleaner. Once cleared, new griptape is ready to be applied to your board.
Instructions for Applying Griptape on Your Skateboard
Applying griptape is a straightforward task requiring minimal tools. Begin by peeling the paper from the adhesive side of the griptape. Carefully place and press this sticky side onto the board deck, ensuring it is centered.
As you apply it, eliminate any air bubbles—many modern griptapes are designed with perforations to simplify this step. Proceed by trimming the corners of the griptape and etching out its outline on the deck's edge using a tool. Cut away any excess griptape with a sharp knife. Finally, pinpoint holes for bolts with a pointed tool.
