Purchasing Axles for Scooters
Scooter axles differ in size and design based on the brand and model. Noise and malfunctions can occur if the axle is not properly aligned.
Axle Length
Axle or bolt length is measured in millimetres, excluding the head (w/o head). This provides the true length.
How to Choose the Right Axle Length?
- For axles of type A, they should NOT extend past the deck/fork frame or wall.
- For type B, the axle must extend 10 mm beyond the deck/fork frame or wall to secure the lock nut.
Attaching Pegs
- When attaching pegs, ensure it extends at least 10 mm plus your peg's thickness. (A longer type B axle is advisable).
- Type A and B can be swapped as needed.
Head Type
Below are various head types. Ensure you have the fitting tool in the right size to tighten the axle head properly.
Axle Diameter
The typical scooter axle diameter is 8 mm, which is compatible with 8 mm bearings and spacers.
Other options include 6 mm & 10 mm diameters. Off-road scooters usually have 10 mm axles, requiring special bearings.
Thread Density
Axle thread density aligns with a complete set including the head & screw/nut.
